Session #1:

Creatively LEAN –Coloring Our Way to Quality

Come join us as we go to work for Coloring Pages Inc. “Where Coloring Changes Lives”. Coloring Pages Inc. has quality problems and has requested our help.

Join in while Paul Harbath and Chris Hayes from the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) of Utah use a creative approach to teach the concept of Standardized Work. This entertaining exercise is aimed at process analysis and improvement and how Standardized Work can insure that the customer gets what they want, on-time, every time.

Standardized Work is considered a critical component of continuous improvement. Like continuous improvement, it is not rigid and is intended to be changed by the value-add associates on the production floor as they improve their processes. In these times of turnover and training challenges, Standardized Work becomes even more significant. It can get employees connected to their jobs and the company more quickly and insure they have the tools to do their jobs right - the first time. Standardized Work becomes the basis for future product and process improvement and allows a company to gain the competitive advantage.

So, get ready to have some fun while learning some new exciting concepts that will help your own organizations as they strive for continuous improvement and superior product quality.

Session #2:

Creative Brainstorming – The Six Thinking Hats

What happens in the brainstorming sessions you usually attend? Are they lackluster? Unorganized? Boring? Chaotic? Do they produce unusable results? Promote organizational differences? Turn into a power struggle?

If you want to prevent these potentially disastrous results from happening and make your brainstorming sessions more productive, join Cheryl Marzec and Tina Vigos (your dependable and amiable ASQ Salt Lake Section Board members) as they explore the art of parallel thinking by using the Six Thinking Hats exercise.

You will be amazed and delighted to see how deliberate role playing can make you a better thinker and how it improves the synergy and performance of any team. So, come ready to bend your brain just a bit and be willing to try on a few hats in the process!

About Our Speakers…

Cheryl Marzec founded Marzec and Associates, Inc. in 1995, and specializes in ISO 9000 consulting, assessing and training. Her ISO 9000 experience began with the initial standard, which was released in 1987 and continues to the current revision. Her affiliations include ASQ Certified Quality Auditor and she is a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ). She worked with Salt Lake Community College to develop their ISO 9000 Quality System Management course and continues to teach these courses to her clients.

Tina Vigos is a Senior ASQ member and is a Certified Manager of Quality & Organizational Excellence and a Certified Quality Auditor through ASQ. Session #3:

A Creative Approach to Problem Solving

Which problem solving tools should I use? When is the right time to use them? Do I have the right skills to solve these problems? Who can teach me? Guess what!?! This interactive session presented by Chris Bodily from Autoliv provides the answers to these questions and more! There really are problem solving alternatives to the traditional methods of brainstorming and educated guessing. Subject matter knowledge and strategy have roles in the investigation process too. Are you ready to learn the key principles that will increase the likelihood of successful problem solving outcomes? If the answer is yes, then hold on – this session promises to be a fun ride!

About Our Speaker…

Chris Bodily joined Autoliv’s Central Quality group in 2002 and is currently the Reliability Manager for their North America operations. Prior to joining Autoliv, Chris worked in the chemical, pharmaceutics, and bio-tech industries for companies like Glaxo Wellcome, DuPont and Becton Dickinson technologies. He earned his bachelors and masters degrees in statistics from Brigham Young University, and a doctorate in statistics from North Carolina State University. He is a member of the Golden Spike Section of ASQ, is an ASQ-certified reliability engineer, and a professional Dad (which provides for many problem solving opportunities!)
