Matthew J. Dahl

Who better to charge with preserving Utah’s pioneer heritage than a fifth-generation cattle rancher?

Who better to manage a huge living history site than someone with an MBA and extensive experience in the hospitality industry?

Matt Dahl brings both of those worlds together as Executive Director of This is the Place Heritage Park. Raised on the family ranch in Nevada, he has a unique perspective on the lives and challenges of those early settlers who opened the West. Experienced in high-stakes management in the gaming industry, Matt also understands that a historical site is just old buildings if it’s not programmed correctly, run like a business and marketed to bring visitors into those buildings. And, like gaming, living history can be a gamble.

Before coming to This Is The Place Heritage Park two years ago, Matt was Executive Director of the American West Heritage Center in Logan, Utah, where he was responsible for successfully stabilizing that institution’s funding and increasing its programming.

Before that, he was director of hotel and guest services for a hotel/casino in Sparks, Nevada and director of sales and marketing for the State Line – Silver Smith Resort/Casino in Wendover, Nevada.

He rarely has time for it these days, but Matt has been known to play a round or two of golf. He and his wife, Kelly, are the parents of three sons.

Matt will be discussing Product Development, focusing on education, entertainment and accessibility.
