How to Make Sure Your Charts are Worth a Thousand Words
Few things can be as deflating as when your ideas fall flat. Graphics and charts are important tools in communicating effectively. They are usually the fastest way to communicate KPIs, statistical analyses, and exploratory data analysis (EDA); however, too often the message is obscured by poorly constructed charts. In this presentation we will learn to apply best practices to common charts such as line, bar, and scatter plots. For example, we will explore how to clearly present a myriad of categories, making visuals accessible to those who are colorblind or viewing in black and white, how zoom and aspect ratios can make the underlying story clearer, and when secondary axes can help and when they hurt.
You will leave with an actionable checklist of principles to review when presenting Quality data that will improve your efforts to implement Quality initiatives and productivity, remove barriers to understanding the data in your workplace, and ultimately achieve Deming’s vision of accomplishing the transformation.
